Great Job Stoudamire

Damon Stoudamire, former NBA player, is now entering his second year as the Memphis Tigers Basketball assistant coach. I read the article today in the Commercial Appeal about how he not only teaches the players skills on the court, but he teaches the players how to become better men off of the court. Other coaches will be focused just on basketball but he is not one of them. College basketball needs more coaches like Stoudamire who can teach a young man about the sport of basketball and manhood as well. I just want to say that Stoudamire has done a great job with the players as a whole and he is a great mentor for young guys coming to Memphis to play basketball.

This upcoming season for Tarik Black

I am looking forward to seeing how well Tarik Black will play this upcoming season. This guy averaged 10.7 points per game, 4.9 rebounds per game, and 1.5 steals last season. His only problem last season was that he couldn't stay out of foul trouble. He needs to learn how to stay on his feet instead of jumping into his offensive opponent. this guy is very talented and I do not see him slowing down this upcoming season, more like turn it up.

Adonis Thomas will return to the Tigers next season

Adonis Thomas stated yesterday in a news conference that he will be returning to the University of Memphis next season. This is good news for the Tigers basketball team due to Will Barton declaring for the NBA Draft last week. Adonis Thomas will be a scoring threat for the Tigers. He will now become a captain on the team and will have a big role in motivating his teammates to play their best. This is good news for the city of Memphis and can't wait until next season to see them in action.

Monday, March 26, 2012

No new news on Adonis Thomas

Since Will Barton has decided to take his talents to the NBA, Adonis Thomas is now in line to decided whether or not he will be returning to play for the Tigers next season or take his talents to the NBA. He has until April 10th to make his decision. As this story progresses, I will keep everyone informed.

John Calipari

Be on the lookout for another screw up from your's truly John Calipari, coach of the Kentucky Wildcats. Back in 2008, the Memphis Tigers were screwed out of 39 wins for the season and a runner-up national championship banner. This season, Kentucky just might get a taste of what happened to the Tigers over four years ago.It is a shame that not only he cheats the players out of a education but, he also cheats the fans and the basketball program.

One and Done System in College Basketball

John Calipari might have got off the hook with the NCAA violations made against the University of Memphis back in 2009 but, he will never win a national championship because, he doesn't keep a team long enough to get experience year in and year out. Derrick Rose and other players were taught and preached by Calipari to come and play for only one year. His players are being misguided and he is only teaching them the game of basketball instead of having them to think about other things that are more important than a sport. This year, Calipari has one of the most talented teams in the tournament but, can they handle the pressure in a tight game? Will he finally be able to get over the hump and win a national championship? There hasn't been a coach to win a prized trophy with only freshmen and there never will be. If you would like to keep up with tonight's matchup between Kentucky and Indiana click here, http://scores.espn.go.com/ncb/scoreboard.

Memphis vs The Best

As I am continuing to watch the NCAA Tournament, I look at the teams and all of them except Kentucky have something in common; they are all half court offensive teams. The Memphis Tigers can run with any team in the tournament. The great guard play of Will Barton, Joe Jackson, Chris Crawford, and Antonio Barton was excellent this season giving a lot of teams pure hell. I have much respect for Josh Pastner at how he managed to keep his players for than one year and they were able to develop into better players. The only thing we were missing this year was another big man to go along with Tarik Black. Hopefully in the offseason, the recruiting class will have a 6"10 or 6"11 center who has good footwork, rebound efficiently, stay out of foul trouble, and shoot fairly well from the perimeter.

Two and done for Will Barton

From the Daily Helmsman newspaper on the University of Memphis main campus, Will Barton has decided to go pro only after two seasons at the University of Memphis. Will Barton led the team in scoring (18 per game) and rebounds (eight per game). Also he led the Tigers in field goal percentage, shooting 50.9 percent from the floor. This season he finished with 631 points and it was the third most points scored by a sophomore at Memphis, behind only Penny Hardaway (729) and Larry Finch (669). He also became the fourth Memphis player to be named Conference USA Player of the Year. Will Barton was an outstanding player at Memphis and I want to wish him well at the next level.

Decision time for Will Barton and Adonis Thomas

After an early exit in the NCAA Tournament by the hands of Saint Louis, Josh Pastner is now focused on next season. He has to first start with who will be returning next season for the Memphis Tigers. Will Barton and Adonis Thomas are projected to go in the first round in this June's NBA Draft. Also, will Charles Carmouche be in a Tigers uniform next season? Both Will Barton and Adonis Thomas will have until April 10th to decide whether or not they will be returning to play for the Memphis Tigers or take their talents to the NBA. Coach Pastner said that he will help both players make the decision that is best for the both of them and make sure that they will not have any regrets.

Sad end for the Memphis Tigers

The Memphis Tigers season ended tonight in Columbus, Ohio as Saint Louis defeated the Tigers by the score of 61-54. Wesley Witherspoon of the Memphis Tigers

Last night was the last time you will see Wesley Witherspoon in a Memphis Tigers basketball uniform in a regular season game. He performed very well and showed me that he can play at the highest level. He finished with 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists. When he first came to Memphis in 2008, there were high expectations for him as a basketball player. But he didn't live up to those expectations as he suffered injuries throughout his career. His best season was in his sophomore year when he averaged 12.5 points and 4.6 rebounds. In his junior year, his points average went down to 9 and his minutes went from 25.6 to 22.9. This season he played a reserve role averaging 6.3 points and 3.5 rebounds in 21 minutes per game. This guy showed a lot of heart this season and proved to be a great teammate. After last night, it has been great to follow Witherspoon throughout his collegiate career and I wish him the best with continuing his basketball career.

Will Barton of the Memphis Tigers

Will Barton has been the leading scorer for the Tigers all season long averaging close to 20 points a game. This guy reminds me so much of a young Penny Hardaway. He is quick, flashy, smooth, and very exciting to watch every game. Expect good numbers from the Baltimore Maryland native every time he hits the basketball court in a Memphis Tigers uniform. Many people are wondering will he return next season for the Tigers or will he jump ship to the NBA. It is too early to say but, we all will soon find out. As for last night, here is a clip from Will Barton being interviewed after last night's big win over UAB. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNNFl_jPX68
